Mugs & Myths & Myrthe

My name is Myrthe Apeldoorn, and I am the founder of Mugs & Myths. I began studying Product Design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in 2018. During this course, I felt a strong attraction to ceramics and plaster. In 2022, I graduated from the academy and immediately started my own company, Mugs & Myths. At Mugs & Myths, the primary material used is clay.

My main inspiration is human and animal anatomy, nature, gothic revival and a fascination for oddities. But not just shapes; I am also inspired by the craft of ceramics, and perticulairy plaster mold making. Plaster mold making is a 6000 year old craft, but used present day still in handmade ceramics and machinemade ceramics. I am fascinated by the making of the molds, and the combination with anatomy. Anatomic shapes are very complex, and making the molds is a massive puzzle that motivates me everytime.

Mugs & Myths atelier is located in Nieuwe Wetering, The Netherlands.
